What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. A nice upscale restaurant with a vegan menu available. All the food and service was very great. The vegan vegetable shepherds pie, while good, seemed a little lacking. It seemed like more of a side dish of vegetables than an entree. The terrine was phenomenal.

  2. My husband and I decided to finally try Orsay for happy hour. They asked if we were celebrating anything in particular and we told the hostess it was our anniversary. Shortly after we sat down, they brought over complimentary champagne. Great list of wine, beer and cocktails to choose from with unique names like hey jealousy and Czech please! We tried several items from the small bites menu, all were delicious. My favorite was the potato croquettes. I did expect the escargot to have more flavor, I feel like I’ve had better. The creme brûlée was the star for me! Easily the best I’ve had! Overall, a pleasant experience and we hope to go back soon to try their dinner menu.

  3. Okay let me say I love it here. Made a reservation but they were able to seat us early. Service was A1 from start to finish. Romantic atmosphere perfect for a date night. Pricey but quality 👌🏽 is worth it.

  4. Had a wonderful experience for our anniversary. They were friendly from beginning to end. They brought out beautiful looking food and it was good. Is this the best food i ever had? No. Was it a great meal and did we have a good time? Yes, absolutely.

  5. AMAZING RESTAURANT!!!

The food is extremely high quality, very tasty and the service is great!

We are so happy that we found this place spontaneously, as we are only in Jacksonville for a couple days.

You should make a reservation though, it’s usually very busy (which isn’t surprising for such a good restaurant).

If we ever come back to Jacksonville you can definitely find us here! 🙂

Knowing that The French Pantry is a popular place, we arrived a few minutes early. People started lining up to get in about 10:20. Since it was cold, my wife sent me to get in line while she waited in the car 😂. They opened the doors and we began filing in. My wife ordered the Bang Bang salad and a Napoleon and I ordered a Mufaletta and German chocolate cake. Food started arriving a couple of minutes after we sat down with an order of fresh bread (baguette and onion bread) and then desserts (uh oh). While waiting for our meals we snacked on the bread and tried the desserts. It was so delicious. Shortly our food arrived and it was gorgeous! The meal was great! Portions were perfect, flavors tremendous and everything fresh. My only complaint about the experience is the setting. Besides the tables and chairs, which my wife said are “provincial French” and a few pieces of art in the walls with the Paris motto, you don’t get the feeling that you’re in a French restaurant, Cafe or anything else.

The best food and so fresh. Amazingly delicious, and you know the food is good when there is a line. Bakery is definitely a must, my favorite is the Wedding cake, German Cake, & chocolate chip cookies!!! The bruschetta is the best I’ve had and there are a variety to choose from. Burgers are excellent and if you have time to dine and wait in a long line, it’s an experience. It’s a small place but the food is high end quality!

This restaurant is a well knownJacksonville favorite! It’s been in business for many years but if you’re going to try it you need to know some well kept secrets. First they are only open for lunch. Second, when you go plan on standing in line. They get busy early and stay that way the whole time they’re open. Third, portions are large, think about sharing. Fourth, get dessert!! No more needs to be said about dessert-you can go wrong! Fifth, consider ordering to go and skip the line. Everything is really good. The staff is friendly.

Best Salad I have had in my life 😋 so fresh and delicious ( Mediterranean salad ) The portions are very generous. Don’t go without trying the blueberry cheesecake….without being that sweet that creaminess will be in your memory for few days

Didn’t realize that you shared tables with strangers. Just a little awkward. I had the roast beef with provolone but it didn’t seem like cheese at all and not a lot of meat. The best part was the bread and herbs which were a nice surprise.

Really nice lunch for my first time. I’ve been hearing the raves for years. It almost lived up to the hype. The service and dessert were killer. The main course was “cool”. A great place to try out.

Our server, Serena, was so helpful and in general super great! Our appetizers were tasty, the Tartines were yummy but the bread was really crunchy, the crispy calamari and shrimp was the best part! Super tasty and everything went well together, the little salad on the side was kind of strange though for the looks I can understand it. Our steak frites was okay, the steak and green beans NEEDED salt, it was kind of sweet and the steak was cooked nicely, and the frites were a great texture.

While visiting Jacksonville, we decided to go to Bistro Aix for a birthday celebration. The menu looked very good and it had high ratings based on a fairly large number of reviews. Parking was not a problem. We were having a late lunch and there was parking on the street near the restaurant. As we had hoped, the late time for lunch (l:45) meant the restaurant was not very crowded. The restaurant was still open and we were quickly greeted and sat in a comfortable booth. The dinner menu is more extensive than the luncheon menu. That is not unusual but, as luck would have it, not everything on the luncheon menu was available either. The crab cakes ordered as an appetizer were small but there were three of them and they were very good. The sweet potato soup was the soup of the day. Two of us ordered that and it was outstanding—smooth, creamy and with a delightful flavor. The short ribs were on the menu and sounded excellent and the server recommended the dish. Unfortunately, that dish was not available. I opted for the steak frites. It was accompanied by haricot vert (green beans and french fries). The steak was cooked medium rare, as ordered, and was tender and flavorful. The beans were still crunchy, not boiled to ruin the natural flavor and texture) and the fries were a little too salty but tasted very good and cooked perfectly. My two dining companions ordered the snapper fish special which was accompanied by asparagus and brussel sprouts. The first order of fish was very salty and the person who ordered it does not care for food that is heavily salted. Our server, Marina, was very accomodating and ordered another snapper dish as a replacement. It was not salted and cooked perfectly. The other diner was not as sensitive to salty food and enjoyed the snapper and the side dishes very much. For dessert I selected a berry almondine with vanilla ice cream that was to be served warm. As it turned out, that dish was no longer available as it had sold out. I opted for the tuxedo chocolate cake which was outstanding and had a beautiful presentation. (See the accompanying photo.) It was delicious and, as the name implies, had a strong chocolate flavor with whipped cream and strawberries on the side. All three of us enjoyed the cake and it was quickly consumed. Moreover, as I had noted on the reservation that this was a birthday celebration, there was no charge for the birthday cake dessert. There is an extensive wine list by the bottle. As is usually the case, the “by the glass” list of options is considerably more restricted. There is still a good variety of wine available by the glass. I deferred a bottle as driving through Jacksonville traffic can be a challenge and settled for one excellent glass of cabernet to accompany the steak frites. Our server was very good and made sure everything was taken care of. Marina was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and her attention to detail made the occasion more enjoyable. Bistro Aix was an enjoyable experience and worth a visit. I would prefer the more elaborate menu for the evening meal but the items we selected were delicious. The biggest disappointment, which was quickly remedied, was the heavily salted fish entree which is somewhat unusual for a high end restaurant. All of the selections were well prepared, flavorful, and contributed to a happy birthday family celebration.

The restaurant has dropped significantly. Aix was a staple of my childhood. I remember the pastry kitchen and fresh oven pizzas. The escargot 🐌 was fantastic; however, the Niçoise salad 🥗 came without any Nicoise olives! When we requested the Nicoise olives the server returned with pitted Kalamata olives and insisted that the Niçoise salad only “features hard boiled eggs and green beans after the Niçoise state in France.” The dishonesty went ahead and dropped an additional star. Overall: lackluster.

Overall great experience.. Brussel sprouts needed bit more cooking otherwise good food. Wouldn’t make anything spicy so that was disappointing as well.
