What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. If you are looking for a good martial arts studio, this is the place to go. I have been enrolled in the Muay Thai striking program for a few months now, and I am still loving it. The coaches care about each student, and they really get to know you by name so you have a sense of belonging. They create a really positive environment that leaves me always looking forward to coming back for the next class. Not only that, they teach solid technique in class; their main goal is to make you better, so they will give you the instruction and motivation you need to improve. A thing to note, this studio is best for folks who are committed to learning the art of fighting. If you are are just looking to casually get a martial arts style workout in here and there, this isn’t the place for you. But if you want to challenge your body and learn fighting skills long-term, this is it.

  2. I highly recommend anyone to NWFA the professor and the coaches are the best. They help you when you feel lost and not feeling confident in yourself. They pushes you to your max until you feel you have succeeded. The hours here are very flexible around your daily work or school schedule, and also they have night and day class. I been with NWFA for almost two years and I have learned so much and they help me build my confidence and to see things differently in life. Kiddos to the Professor and coaches for their hard work and their time for training the class.

  3. Great experience here! Coaches Stephen, Daniel and Brady are all technically knowledgeable, give great feedback, and are encouraging and excited to get in there with you and help you improve. It’s obvious they love martial arts and love teaching.
One thing I particularly like is the cues to focus on various sub-skills during any given exercise– i.e. “for this round, focus on coordination” (or power, or form, or speed, or pure burnout, etc). Every class feels like the perfect balance of relaxed and challenging (just like the forms themselves). Strongly recommend!

  4. As a long-time member of NWFA (10+ yrs.), I can confidently say that it is an excellent place to train. The instructors are highly skilled and dedicated to helping students improve their techniques and achieve their goals. The classes were challenging, but the instructors provided coaching for students of all skill levels. The gym is well-equipped and maintained, creating a safe and comfortable training environment. The community of students is encouraging and welcoming, creating a sense of belonging and motivation. I have seen consistent progress in my skills and maintaining my fitness level since joining, and I highly recommend NWFA to anyone looking to start or continue their combat sports journey.

  5. Over 20 years ago now I joined NW Fighting Arts to get in better shape, learn some personal defense skills and actually improve my reflexes. This year I enrolled my son in this school hoping he would improve these skills as well, and it’s going great! The staff there is very knowledgeable and helpful and I, of course, have always appreciated the owners leadership and abilities as well. Great martial arts academy!

Haven’t been here in a few years so may be different but they aren’t a gym I’d recommend whatsoever. Unless you wanna get locked in a too expensive contract and not be able to cross train don’t go here. Way better gyms in town

What a great place! Flew in from France for business. Really appreciated their ethos after researching the gym online. I was not disappointed. Instructor was deeply knowledgeable welcoming and helpful. The class mates were mixed abilities but considerate to my newbie status and open (staff even helped me tie my Gi 😅). If I lived in Portland would be here three times a week.

I have twins that are five years old. They go twice a week. I have nothing but great to say about this place. It’s the best thing the twins have done. Great people. Not only are they learning about self-defense. They teach them about everything on the steps to get where are you from time is it will take longer but if you keep trying you will get your there. It’s been definitely worth the money that we pay. You guys are great keep up the good work

I wanted to get in a few BJJ classes while visiting family, and SBG gave me a fun, flexible gym to do so! I really appreciate the warm welcome from the team. The foundations class with Franklin was solid, and the professors are attentive. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area again!

I couldn’t recommend this gym more highly. I started my martial arts journey here and they have been nothing but welcoming and fun. The entire crew that runs the gym and the upper belts and coaches are exactly the kind of people you would want to train with and learn from. Their jiu jitsu is perfect for self defense and competition. This gym is the first of its kind in Oregon and still is one of the best. If you’re looking to get into martial arts, check this gym out first.

Industrial Strength is a stellar gym, community, and sport-specific outfit for olympic-style weightlifting and Jiu Jitsu athletes. The owners, Mira and Tony, are highly skilled, growth-oriented coaches who not only excel in their respective sports but truly invest in each and every member of their gym and their specific goals and needs regardless of age and level. At Industrial Strength, I’ve found that in addition to access to expert coaching, great equipment and facilities, I also gained access to an entire network of resources and awesome referrals of other local businesses; I’ve found really awesome physical therapists, doctors, nutritionists, and other services from Mira’s recommendations and how tapped in they are to the community. They also intentionally cultivate a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for diversity and inclusion that feels friendly and open!

This gym has improved my life in many ways- joining was honestly one of my best decisions ever. I’m a 40 year old mom of a young child. I was pretty out of shape when I joined, but since going 3x per week for 10 months now, my physical and mental health have improved in a major way, and it’s really fun, too. It’s very rewarding to use heavier weights over time- and my improved strength is definitely noticeable with everyday tasks like carrying my kid around. I plan to keep going for years to come.

I can’t recommend Olympic Weightlifting at Industrial Strength enough! Mira is such a wonderful coach with an unbelievable amount of knowledge not only regarding the sport specifically, but also mobility and general training, which I’ve found to be so helpful. She is constantly looking for ways to help her athletes improve and she really helps you understand the techniques being taught. The sense of community and the team atmosphere is so amazing, I’d encourage anyone interested in Olympic Weightlifting to give it a try!

I’ve joined Industrial Strength Olympic Weightlifting program 6 months ago, and not only have I dramatically improved my strength, technique, and gainz, but also found an amazingly supportive community and new friends. Coach Mira is fantastic! She helped me address my weaknesses and under her guidance I was able to achieve my (yet) lifetime PR in both snatch and clean&jerk in under 4 months of training! I am feeling stronger, happier, and am ready to conquer new weights.

I had some personal training sessions with Adam and it was awesome. He was patient and gave good cues for what he was teaching. He worked on the things I wanted to learn which was greatly appreciated. The place is freaking clean and organized you can tell they care about everything. The bathrooms were always spotless. Tony was great at answering my questions and the communication was amazing. Thank you for your help in my health journey.
