  1. Perfect circumstance, Perfect dishes, and Perfect server. Those three combo are matched with my favor. I strongly recommend this place for your special celebration. The only thing I want to suggest is to warm each plate before they serve. I ordered s Django Bar stake, which was awesome, but the plate was not hot so the dish became cold swiftly. Anyhow, despite of the temperature of the plate, I was satisified with the food, services, and circumstance of this place. Great! Thank you for making memorable experience.

  2. Visited Iowa in Oct.2021. We were trying new cuisine and was led to this place. The outer and inner appearance of the restaurant was hip and cool, and classy. When you walk inside, you are greeted with happy and smiling faces. The first floor gave me the mellow, contemporary, younger crowd, but still classy. On the second floor (is where we were) it’s very elegant and fancy. The table settings were beautiful. We have never had French cuisine before, so we had to ask a lot of questions about everything. The waitress was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. She made us feel like we were the only people in the room. Ok.. we ordered poutine and an additional French fries cooked with duck fat.The poutine was good. It had just the amount of everything and those combined flavors were there. The fries though…the were ok. We could not tell any difference between regular fries and those cooked with duck fat. We visited a restaurant in L.A. that had delicious fries, we naturally wanted to compare, but the other place won that race. The duck confit had and excellent presentation and the duck was not tuff and very flavorful. It also microwaved well the next day. This place is not very kid friendly. The menu was limited in options for children( well at least my child.) The space is not very disabled friendly. I have mobility problems and it was difficult to walk up and down the small curvy steps. Overall I give it a 4/5.

  3. 10/10. Fantastic dining experience. Had a three course meal, and all three courses were special. Prices were on par with similar fine dining restaurants around town. The pork chop was amazing, and I would have gladly paid $50 for it.

  4. Highly recommend starting off with Seasonal Raw Ousters, fried calamari, Django rings & or fried Brussels sprouts. The onion soup was a huge hit. I also highly recommend the Scallops. Hidden Gem: the dinner rolls are insanely good!

  5. A favorite when we’re in Des Moines for several reasons. Friendly and attentive staff. Great food at great prices. Fresh seafood. Fantastic array of wines. Delicious entrees. They have the best escargot. The ambiance can’t be beat!

Who serves soup in a super wide, shallow bowl? The tomato soup was barely warm in the center, and completely cold on the outside. Flavor was spicy and texture was weird. I also ordered the grain bowl, which contained less than 1/8 of a cup of grain. Not much flavor in the cauliflower & sweet potatoes. Not impressed. Coffee tasted like it had been sitting in the pot a long time. Hubby said he liked his breakfast tacos, but they looked a little skimpy for the price (with no sides). G’dau liked her very overpriced yogurt & granola. We did have really great service, so there’s that

Amazing way to celebrate Sunday with an brilliant friend & co-worker! We had a great conversation over breakfast & the service was excellent! We weren’t rushed & ate our breakfast in peace. My food was sweet & filling & my friends was savory. Thank you for making our trip to Des Moines end with a great breakfast! We appreciate you!

In town on vacation, place looked cool so we stopped in. We sat near the kitchen window and bathrooms. Nice place, nice bathrooms. Food was pretty good! Baby changing table in the large one room bathroom was convenient. We would try it again. Not sure the girl working wanted us there but she cracked a smirk by the end. Also, loved the bacon. They were thick strips for once! 👍🏼🥓🍳

Such a unique modern hip cafe! I loved how worldly the menu was. The atmosphere was really nice, presentation of food was simple, and the place was clean. It was easy to find and when we got inside the restaurant was super busy, but they still accommodated quickly. I enjoyed going with my family. Points for having a changing table in the bathroom! We ordered a hot chocolate, chai tea, veggie sandwich, and I forgot the name of what my boyfriend got (sorry).

Stopped in for lunch while in town for business. Service was polite and prompt from beginning to end. Having read so many positive reviews of the avocado toast, I had to try it, and I was definitely not disappointed. Some might want the bacon a little more done, but personally I don’t want it super crunchy. The iced coffee was cool and refreshing on a 90° day, and not too bitter even without milk or cream. I will say it’s not a cheap lunch spot, but I think the ingredients, preparation and presentation justify the price.

Very nice place for pastries, baked goods, and coffee. Compared to other cities I’ve been to the prices are very fair, great quality of food and service. A popular spot, a must visit spot if your in town looking for a brunch or meeting with friends. I tried the salmon tartine as it was highly recommended. Was impressed and satisfied. Came with half of a Large avocado as well.

I’ve had a lot of pastries, and a lot of croissants, all over the world and in France, and man, La Mie is fantastic. Get there early so you can get your pick from the vast table of fresh pastries, from various fruit danishes, to croissants (plain, chocolate, cheese and spinach, and more), and lots of others. The pastry is flakey and cracks perfectly as you might, filling your mouth with rich buttery layers. Truly great, wish I could have some every day. Great pricing too.

Best bakery in Des Moines. Incredibly well made pastries, desserts, breads, and sandwiches. I’ve liked everything on the menu so far. Everything seems to be baked fresh the same day. Be prepared to arrive early because most of the fresh bread is sold out by mid-morning. Decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking around the back. Be prepared to wait in line for 5-10mins on a Saturday morning at the register.

We went to La Mie bakery in Des Moines, IA. We enjoyed coffee and pastry. Excellent crispy puffs. An assortment of quiche, sandwiches, lasagna, and croissant.

Best authentic place for French pastries and coffee in Des Moines! They have plenty of other food too – bread, macarons, sandwiches, cake, breakfast items, etc. Unfortunately the sizes of their drinks have decreased a little bit from the last time I was there but the quality is still amazing. Pastries are without fail, delicious! Biggest negatives for eating here are parking and seating. The small parking lot is always full so sometimes you may need to find street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. The seating is also not great. Due to their limited space issue inside, they now assign seating after you’ve ordered and have signs posted everywhere asking that you please limit your time at a table to 45 minutes. Positive for this place is that they make it very easy to take stuff to-go. All this to say, this is still my favorite Saturday brunch place in Des Moines! It’s great for couples, smaller groups, and those who want fantastic pastries to go.
