  1. My son and I planned a trip to visit family in Detroit for Christmas 2021. I sent a email to Detroit Jiu-jitsu in November 2021, to see if they would let my 11 year old son train while we were in Detroit. They responded immediately, that they would love to host my son while visiting. When we first arrived to the gym, I was very impressed with how clean and organized the gym was. Coach Danny walked over to us and introduced himself, and took my son to the mat where the other kids were. After day one training was over one of the kids that my son rolled with came over to my son and shook his hand and said you are really good at jiu-jitsu. My son said that he likes the school, the kids and the coaches here. As a parent, that tells you alot about a school when your kid brags about it. I highly recommend Detroit jiu-jitsu to any parent that wants their kid to train in the sport of Jiu-jitsu. Thanks to coach Danny and staff for welcoming us with open arms. Awesome school.

  2. Started training here about 6 months ago after switching from another local gym. Best decision I ever made! Coach Danny and Coach Anthony REALLY care about their students and my Jiu Jitsu skills and knowledge have increased dramatically. DJJ for life!

  3. Danny and the instructors care about each and every student. My 13 y/o started a year ago, and is also working toward his black belt in TKD. This is a learning curve for him as he has been learning a lot of kicking and striking for years now. He loves it and feels it gives him a greater advantage as far as self defense goes. It’s also a great workout, which I love…tires my kid right out because they work hard!

  4. My husband started training here about 2 years ago and has been BEGGING me to come try jiu-jitsu. As someone who has never done any sort of grappling, to say I was intimidated would be an understatement. Coach Danny and Coach Anthony were immediately welcoming and open to having someone as new as me in the gym to come train. The atmosphere and training environment cannot be matched. I’ve grown so much as a person and athlete since joining the DJJ family. There is no other place I want to continue my jiu-jitsu training except at DJJ. I’m grateful for this gym. I’m grateful for amazing coaches. I’m grateful for jiu-jitsu. ❤️

  5. DJJ has been a staple in the Southeast Michigan BJJ/MMA scene for some time. Really strong reputation throughout the Midwest with phenomenal adult and kids programs. I trained here for nearly five years after relocating for work, and had an excellent experience with the team.

    For beginners: the environment is welcoming with great instructors and zero pressure to compete/roll with folks above your skill level. I competed twice in five years and never felt pressure to do more than that (though competing is certainly encouraged).

    For advanced athletes: the gym is home to several current and former MMA fighters. Several of the guys have had fights in Bellator, One FC, and the UFC.

    For BJJ purists: several athletes have competed and performed well at IBJJF Worlds and the ADCC trials.

    You’ll find really strong instruction and a jam-packed gym with tons of high-level talent to roll with. Really excellent experience training there.

    I’m a 38 year old female starting Jiu Jitsu for my first time. Been going for several months now. Not knowing what I was getting into, I have felt very welcomed and comfortable at 313 BJJ. It is very clean and well maintained. Outstanding coaches. Mamoon is great and Fabio is very patient and detailed. I highly recommend coming to 313 and we need more women 😊

    I am a beginner who trains at a academy north of the city close to my home, but work downtown. I decided to drop in for some training at an afternoon class at 313 BJJ. I was very impressed. Professor Lima gave some great instruction on shoulder lock sequences from half-guard. It was followed by some very challenging sparing. Lima’s students are being very well served by him and are very good. The facilities are also top notch, very clean, and very modern looking (but with some old Detroit charm) with multiple showers (with soap and shampoo provided, which saves you the big hassle of bringing and storing your own in your gear bag -little thing but big plus imho) nice locker room, and multiple restrooms that are separate from the showers. Look forward to dropping in again. Would recommend to anyone who lives or works in the Motor City.

    My four children have been training at 313 for almost 5 years and they love it. Mamoon is an excellent instructor. He is patient with the children and always encouraging and fun! My kids have gained strength in mind and body. Fabio leads an awesome community and the kids are a part of it. Everyone who walks in the door has a mutual respect for one another. We are happy to be a part of 313 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

    My son has been attending the Rising Warriors program for 5 months now. I’m really proud of him for wanting to stick with it even though its not always easy for him. Coach Amariah and coach Kurt are fantastic! I appreciate the patience, humor, and humility they show while creating a fun and educational class for the students that is clearly rooted in deep knowledge and reverence they have of the martial arts traditions. In addition to teaching fundamental physical techniques, they also exercise concepts like focus and self-control; not an easy feat especially with students age 4-6! I’m so impressed with the quality of service and high value to price, I’m interested in joining a class myself and would encourage other aspiring students to do the same!

    I’ve been training at MKG Detroit for about two months so far, coming in without any previous martial arts training. The teachers & students at MKGD are very welcoming, and immediately made me feel comfortable. Kurt has an insane amount of knowledge and experience across multiple disciplines, and teaches with patience, awareness of individual needs, and a sense of humor that keeps the classes fun. It’s made a big difference in my life, I highly recommend!

    MKG Detroit is a great place to train martial arts. The students here are as friendly, helpful, and welcoming group of people as I have ever met. Sifu Kurt Cornwell is an excellent instructor who teaches with humbleness and humor. His knowledge of martial arts is extensive and his ability to convey it in a simple and direct manner makes taking classes here a real pleasure. Another bonus is the emphasis on fitness. Along with the yoga program you are able to achieve improved conditioning and mobility. If you are interested in beginning or progressing in the martial arts, I highly recommend MKG Detroit!
