Checkmat is organized into different categories; 4-6 year old, 7-13, adult women’s & men’s classes etc. Class times are catered to the age of the class. Also, they have certain weekends they host their house scrimmage matches that you can sign your child up for and have them experience live competition in a small safe fun environment with food, drinks, music & of course Ju Jitsu! Furthermore, I love the fact they give you a free trial when you are deciding on signing up to see if it is something you would like to do and grow as apart of their program. All of the instructors are very knowledgeable, kind and patient. Coach Allen was very informative, communicative, clear, friendly, and amazing from the start. Being new to Charlotte, it was great finding a diverse program for my 6year old that embodies a rich culture built on structure and discipline, while still making sure the kids enjoy themselves. Checkmat Charlotte is located in an accessible area, and the gym is intimate and kept up well. The coaches here are great and the upper belts are willing to help you learn along the way. I’ve been here for almost 6 months and can recommend this locations and its coaches any day of the week. Lots of flexibility in the schedule, and class size. I’ve competed in different sports mostly on my own and watching these guys compete on the mats, made it feel like a team sport unlike anything I’ve ever seen. They are a top tier team in all the local and regional competitions and the training shows that. As a beginner, i was welcomed and encouraged early on and 6 months later its still there. I had the opportunity to visit the academy while traveling for the holidays and it was an absolutely amazing experience. I attended two classes, Professor Andre taught some amazing techniques and all the students were very inviting, courteous, and friendly. If I lived in the area, I would definitely train at this school full-time.
I went there before i joined the marine corps about 3 years ago but i never forgot what they taught me. The people i met the friends i
made & all the memories. how could i give nothing less than a 5 star? There the best of the best 100%.
As long as I am in CLT, I will train under Lucas Lepri and Andre. There is no other option to consider, and this place makes me want to stay in CLT. Ive trained at other places before, but this one beats everything in my eyes. Top notch!
