What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Very Modern Senior Living Community. Though the address identifies as Plano, this great establishment is actually apart of the Outstanding City of Richardson.

  2. I moved my elderly aunt (who suffers from COPD) here in April. We chose this complex because they have a “No Smoking” inside your apartment policy. The manager assured us that the policy was enforced and that It is, in fact, a stipulation of the lease.

When my aunt moved in we smelled cigarette smoke immediately. My aunt is on oxygen and can’t be around smoke. You can smell smoke in her cabinets (especially under the sinks). It’s painfully obvious there are people smoking in their apartments. The smoke is particularly bad in the evening hours.

When my aunt reported this problem to the office they said “there wasn’t supposed to be any smoking inside any of the apartments and that they do inspections twice a year and at those inspections they would address those (by citing them) who were smoking in their apartments.”

Obviously, twice a year inspections don’t help those non-smoking residents with health issues who are breathing in this smoke every day. My aunt has been hospitalized numerous times since moving here. Now she is locked into a lease which management doesn’t intend to enforce in an ongoing fashion regarding the non-smoking policy. It’s a shame because this was a very nice place initially. I recommend moving here only if you are a smoker. As a side note, the cleanliness of the facility has really taken a downturn. Note the photo that shows cigarette butts in the elevator.
UPDATE: 10/20/2019-I’m not sure who responded to my review from the Savannah at Gateway but it must not have been the current manager-Erica McFarland. First of all..I don’t live in the facility my aunt does and I did not mention her name so not sure how they can say they would contact us?? Neither my aunt or myself have been contacted and absolutely nothing has been done about the serious issue of residents smoking inside their apartments. Please don’t be fooled by these generic responses coming from who knows where. This complex desperately needs new management.

  3. A close relative has lived here for 4 years. In that time frame the rent has been raised by $250. Office staff has changed for the better, but they continually find reasons to fine residents. The maintenance staff has also changed, but for the worst. Compared to before, the hallways are filthy. They removed the common trash cans, and they are inconsistent with removing the valet trash and will fine you for not removing it in the morning, and for placing them outside too early. This would not be an issue except they also lock the Dumpster sometimes to where you can’t dispose of waste at all if you work evenings. I have seen rats on the first floor in the bins. And now there are roaches in building 3. They would have gotten 3 stars but the improvement in office staff matters. Do not live on a higher floor if you have limited mobility, because the elevators break frequently. The amenities are great but be flexible because they can change and be removed at a moments notice. It’s not the worst place to live, but lease with extreme caution.

  4. Previous management team advised that I could give 30-day notice to vacate which I did.

However, when requesting the status of my refund, new management (whoever it is) stated that I did not give proper notice, thus they hit me with penalties and now I owe them monies.

How convenient. Not one iota of caring from new management.

  5. The turnover in management is to much. When you get use to one team, here comes another. Even though we are ok now, another problem is there isn’t enough maintenance men and porters. With that being said a lot of things are going undone. We need this place to be fully staffed for the amount of money we are charged. All praises to our maintenance man Mr. Kevin, you are an asset to Savannah. Kevin is always working hard and has a pleasant disposition. He tries to accommodate all the residents, even before he is on duty. Again, thank God for Mr. Kevin..

My parents live at this complex but they have continuously had concerns about the quality of the food. In the last three weeks they were both served under cooked chicken twice. Pink in the middle. Both of those times my father had really bad stomach issues afterwards for three days. With older folks dehydration Is a big concern with diarrhea and it bothers me this is an ongoing issue. He shouldn’t be sick two times in three weeks because of food. The quality of the food has drastically become worse over the last month. The rest of the place is great but food is a big deal. Food is one of the reasons this apartment cost is higher at this complex. As my father is not the greatest advocate I wanted the public to know that this is an issue. Please focus on food safety. The quality isn’t the best either. Side note: the ramp to go outside to the one of the courtyard exits is missing its ramp and handicapped folks in wheelchairs have issues getting in and out.

My mom has been at Solstice for 3 years now, we feel lucky and blessed that we found this place for her. The facility is always clean and bright, and the staff is always friendly and willing to help. Kristen, the Director, sets the tone at the top and leads by example. I live in a different state, and Kristen and her team have gone way beyond the list on the contracts to help my Mom. They have done things like help me with her cell phone and take her to the doctor and stay with her the entire time. Kristen will text me telling me about the conversation and stories she heard as she spends time with my Mom. It really is a blessing to have someone that truly cares watching after your loved ones. As for other amenities, my Mom likes the variety of food and says that it is always good. And, we have seen great live events for the residents and the weekly happy hour is always fun. Our experience would have been drastically different without the amazing team at Solstice. You won’t find a more dedicated Director than Kristen, and that flows down to her team. We are very pleased, and we are confident that you will be as well. Thank you, Kristen and the entire Solstice team!

My mom enjoys living at Solstice. Kristen, the Executive Director, and her team are accommodating and sensitive to the needs of their residents. I am grateful for this lovely community.

I wrote a review about 18 months ago, promising then to update my evaluation once the new executive director had been in place for awhile. My mother lived at Solstice for 20 months before passing away. As a result, we had a wide variety of engagements with Solstice and its services. First, I feel that Kristen (executive director) has done an outstanding job of steadying the ship. This took awhile, because it meant personnel and policy changes, making sure the right people were not just in the building but in the right roles, and having a sustainable methodology. I feel she has done all this and has created a fairly well-oiled machine. I can’t speak to all the services Solstice offers (like recreation activities or buses to medical appointments and shopping), as my mother’s health declined sharply just as those services turned back on after the pandemic eased. Other residents seem to like the various options, but we unfortunately had little experience with the range of services at Solstice. What we did learn about was the path for my mother to add services in place as her health declined. It was important to her to be in her home, and Solstice and its partners facilitated that goal. First was the transition from independent living to assisted living. This was done through Grace Home Health, which provides staff on site 24 hours per day. Leaders at both Solstice and Grace noted the rapid decline in my mother’s function and my own sizable investment of time trying to help her, and basically told me, “It’s time to get help.” I deeply appreciate their advice, as I could not work a job and give my mother all the care she suddenly needed. While there were some bumps in the transition and execution at times, the overall experience with Grace was a good one. My mother very much appreciated their care, and I appreciated the degree of difficulty that they had to execute. Solstice still provided the basic infrastructure, including meals, and worked together with Grace to ensure my mother’s meals were delivered and fit her allergies and changing needs. The last step was the transition from assisted living to hospice care. Grace works with a connected service called Brightstar Hospice. Brightstar was great, with knowledgeable, caring personnel, and they coordinated with Grace for the daily care that was needed. Solstice was not really involved during this phase by nature, except for providing basic infrastructure. To wrap up, I appreciated that my mother had continuity and stability throughout her decline and passing. There is a good spirit at Solstice; my mother (a hermit) was not close to other residents, but the residents got to know me, were supportive and encouraging, and sometimes went out of their ways to help my mother and me. I feel like Solstice offers a high value-to-price ratio, and Solstice is a very good option for your family. I can especially recommend the evolutionary path that my mother took in spending her final months at Solstice.

My mother-in-law is a resident. She loves the community and has made many great friends who have been very helpful in her transition moving in. The management has been very responsive to any concerns and quick with any needed repairs. Kolton went out of his way to make sure my mother-in-law is well taken care of and happy with her apartment. My grandparents were former residents and they loved it as well. I highly recommend Preston Place to anyone looking for senior living.

I think the location of Preston place is excellent. I think the new owners are trying very hard to upgrade and improve the amenities and services available to their residents. After attending more than one social event it appears that the residents are quite happy, engaged, and enjoying each other and what they are being offered. The updates that are being done to the apartments are attractive and on point. The staff that I met during my latest visit were thoughtful and impressive. Preston Place has been an excellent fit for my mother and hopefully will be for other friends and family members that have shown an interest in the property.

Amendment eight months after last review. Turn over I was concerned about has returned to normal and we got another manager about 4 months ago who has the kind of commitment to the people of the community that makes it a pleasure to live here. The company managing the facility now is, with the guidance of senior staff, is investing in the property. With what they have already done and planned improvements, the community is only becoming better. Most important of all, the way neighbors care for one another here has survived the turmoil. This remains a true community. So, the fifth star has been earned again. Original review: I’ve lived here over five years. I love my apartment. I give the community four instead of five stars because there has been such a huge turn over of staff during this last year after the community was sold from one company to another. The current manager seems great. Think they are headed back to the five star facility they used to be. Pic is the view from my patio.
