  1. Absolutely love this place! LaVerne and her husband are wonderful people. The suites each have their own kitchen or kitchenette and full size bathroom. Gorgeous views of the Organ Mountains during the day and the city lights at night. Plenty of room to relax and unwind.

  2. I’d rate this place at 5 stars with an owner who cared. Don’t give this lady a security deposit and remember she doesn’t hand out receipts or anything else that requires work on her part. I also believe she is operating without a business license and will hold you responsible for her 1970s furniture that was ruined before you rented a room here. She charged one tenant or is attempting to charge him for her septic system, again from the 70s, despite this being an issue long before he had rented a room. She is operating at full capacity despite the pandemic and rules stating she should only be at 25 percent capacity. It is a beautiful location and hopefully the next owner can help return it to the state she once kept it in. The current owner is just old, seems to suffer from dementia, and only wants to collect money from this location as opposed to putting money back into her business. There is also a mold problem from a failed pond in the main room that has had stagnant green water for the entire year we rented from her and it had ruined the walls in room one that were only covered but not repaired.

  3. Worst experience of my life. I hope the new owners do better. First the old owner’s waited until I was 6 hours from home and had no other options to choose from to inform me that they only take cash and that they are no longer the owners. Secondly, the husband bullied me into paying more than what the wife agreed for me to pay to stay for a whole month. Third, the old owner’s were the only contact I was allowed to have during my stay and were shockingly rude to not only myself but other customers who complained while picking up items they purchased during an estate sale. So rude in fact they had the audacity to actually curse me out when demanding more money after I had already paid 2 days prior. Finally I was able to make other arrangements and when I was attempting to get over $100 backthat I was owed after pre-paying for half a month, they refused to refund my money, would not answer the phone, and would not make contact with me at all. The lodge is HIGHLY outdated, the pictures on the website are from MANY YEARS PRIOR, the room was so dirty I had to go out, purchase my own cleaning supplies, and clean the whole place myself. If you have the chance to stay at “A Lodge On The Desert” wait until the new owner takes over and is running the place or you will be cheated out of money, disrespected, and will end up paying so much more money than what it will ever be worth. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. I have never in my life been so disrespected by a business. When confronted about being cursed at by the former owner’s husband, the wife had the audacity to actually excuse her husband’s actions saying “I didn’t think it was that bad.” Since when is cursing out your patron’s ever acceptable???? If EVER I decide to come back to this place again, I’ll make sure the new owner is running it, I have a printed and signed contract over the price prior to ever showing up again, and will ensure that I can pay via bank card so that if services are not rendered I can cancel the payment instead of having my hard earned money extorted from me like this was. The scenery is breathtaking but it will NEVER be enough to make up for the experience I endured and the way I was treated during my stay. Wholly unacceptable. I work hard for the money I earn and being a single parent, it’s very rare to be able to take a vacation. After years of saving up for this just to have my money stolen and my vacation ruined, I feel cheated, disappointed, and feel like I wasted all this time and money just to be taken advantage of by a rude, greedy, money-hungry set of thieves.

    Owner was awesome and super personable. He met us by appointment due to the current pandemic. Everything in his store is beautifully made and cared for. I am from out of town and found a lot of smaller pieces to take back to my friends and family.

    Fantastic rental property that is meticulously put together, and has the majority of basic amenities you might need. Hot tub and multi-jet shower in the master bathroom are fabulous. Great views of the surrounding mountains from both patios. Floor needs a mopping, but otherwise the property is very clean! Location is great for going out to White Sands or Dripping Springs. Definitely would recommend staying here if you’re in the Los Cruces area.
