What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Never ever have your dog groomed here. My dog was past her usual appointment from getting spayed. We discussed what she needed and I left. They called me once I got home to say her ears were too matted to do the service. They failed to tell me that they shaved her down to her skin on her back side and stopped. I had no words. I will never go back. Poor girl was stressed and attached to me the rest of the day.

  2. Took the dogs for a grooming session and Tasha was fantastic with them.

Store is super clean, organized and well stocked. And my cashier was very friendly and fast!

  3. I wish I could remember their name, but the associate who helped us with the hamsters was awesome! They seemed very knowledgeable and they were very friendly. They answered all of our questions and helped us get our new pet and all the supplies that we needed and let us know that we could come back and talk to them in the future if we needed anything or had more questions. Give this person a raise because they deserve it!

  4. At first I was nervous to come to grooming because of the bad reviews, But staff were so nice! They were calm and patient with my cat! I will definitely be returning thanks guys! Ignore the reviews and just go! I forgot the ladies name but she was really nice (pink hair)🩷 Thanks guys!

  5. Celeste is Amazing!!! This employee went above and beyond for me today! She’s the reason I will always come back here!!! Thank you again for your help

We went in looking for a new fur baby and that is just what we found. The staff was happy to help in any way. Although you could tell the were busy and maybe a little understaffed in some sections they did not let that stop them from giving each person an experience. The wait time was a little long when I came to pick up my new cat, but they allowed me to play with him and get him ready to go home with me. They even gave us lots of coupons for care-a-lot, ziplock bag of dry food and 2 cans or wet food to get us started and must I say our new fur baby is great. It is always an awesome feeling to rescue a new pet.

I have contacted im sure over 20 times with no response. It’s like they keep the phones unplugged. Many of the workers here are rude and come off as Karen’s, disregarding the younger employers.grumpy faces and never smiling. Anyway, that did not stop me and my daughter from adopting our first baby kitten originally named Tilly. We were told she had 30 days of pet insurance along with other things but never received the information and contacting by phone is nearly impossible. Not everyone resides in Norfolk, nor do we want to have to drive to the location because the establishment does not answer calls = not convenient at all. Had it be an actual emergency where information is needed these people are out of reach. Now I see why I was advised to not utilize this location. Still waiting for a response so if an administrator is reviewing emails, I hope you consider the reviews that have been left and also contact regarding our newly adopted kitten. Thanks.

There was a snarky young worker who proceeded to tell us all the red tape we had to go through to adopt a pet, which is crazy! It’s easier to get into grad school than it is to adopt from the Norfolk ASPCA.There was another woman who wanted the same dog I did, who lied , saying the dog had a surgery for a broken leg. The lady at the front desk was rude, barking, “don’t stick your fingers in the cages! ” as we were walking through the front door. it was just her tone, you know. It was an overall very, very bad experience. So much so, that I left without a dog. After all the red tape, it’s close to $250 to adopt a pet. The Virginia Beach ASPCA was much better. So if I do decide decide to adopt from them, hopefully it will be that location. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of one is because of how well the animals seemed to cared for.

A really clean and caring environment. My new fur companion had been in this facility for 14 months. He’s very healthy and had obviously loving care. The staff is doing a great job of providing temporary homes for animals in need!

Wonderful animal shelter with great staff. Highly suggest adopting from this shelter. And if you can’t adopt, you can foster a pet and the shelter provides what you/your pet needs to thrive. All you provide is a loving home. You can also take animals on field trips! 😍

I don’t know if it was bad communication with colleagues or what. My partner and I went in Saturday in hopes of adopting a fur baby and were happy to meet a shy little girl pit. We wanted to get her that day but she needed some vet stuff done on Tuesday so we left. After filling out paper work given to us by the worker she told us she would call us when she was ready and that we were first on the list so we were granted to get her. We called Sunday just to check on everything and she said she would call us as soon as she was ready and cleared from the vet. We came in Monday to see her again as we were excited to get her when she was ready. Again the worker there said were on the list and we were first so she would call once she’s cleared. Tuesday they were closed but we called anyway just to make sure. So Wednesday (today) comes around and we called from the time they opened till 1:30 and no one ever answered so my partner went up there. To his surprise when he went in someone was already in the process of adopting her. He was confused on what was happening because from what we were told was they would call us as soon as she was ready. I called and what I was told was no one ever got around to calling us because they were busy and that on the paper work we signed basically said signing this doesn’t guarantee an adoption. We never saw this on the paper work and we were never told this either all we were told was were first and as soon as she’s ready she’s ours. We were very very disappointed seeing as all weekend we were checking on her and we bought everything for her even a custom name plate and collar. We just wish this place had better communication with their customers because this never should have happened.

Clean facility, pleasant friendly staff, the animals are available for foster/adoption, however due to PETA and the City of Portsmouth mandatory regulations, the animals are spayed or neutered at too young of an age risking their health putting them at risk, spaying pets under 6 months an adverse or deadly reaction to anesthesia is possible, the standard veterinarian recommended age is 6-9 months for a small breed female, for larger breeds the timeframe is 12-15 months. Spaying prematurely can cause orthopedic abnormalities. Closure of the growth plates, present in the long bones is controlled in part by sexual hormones, if spayed prior to growth plate closure, the closure is delayed which can result in longer limbs and musculoskeletal abnormalities, increased risk of cranial cruciate ligament in the knee.Additional orthopedic abnormalities include bone tumors and hip displasia anyone who has had a large breed dog understands the pain of the disease, affecting the quality of life and pain of the animal as they age. I fully understand their thought process, however when adopting an animal especially a puppy, they are potentially causing permanent damage, lifelong suffering and expensive treatment for the adoptive family, which could result in the animal being returned to the shelter when it gets older. There are many options that are humane that can be used to reduce the pet population, also stricter laws and regulations for licensed breeders, we need to focus more on the welfare of the animal and hold people accountable for dumping these pets. PETA does a lot of good work, but they also hinder what is best for the community and the animals-my information sources are AKC, ASPCA, and Good RX Health.
