  1. Gracie Largo feels like our second home! We have been a part of this gym since the early days, and I can’t say enough about how passionate Professor Ben, Coach Jen, and the staff are about your jiu jitsu journey.

    There are multiple skill levels so beginners are not intimated and more experienced members can be challenged. Between my husband and I, we participate in Combatives, Master Cycle, and Women Empowered programs. My personal favorite is the Women Empowered self defense course. I feel more confident in myself and my jiu jitsu skillset.

    The gym is always clean, professional, and welcoming. It is incredibly family friendly as our little one joins us every so often, and we can’t wait for him to do Bully Proof.

  2. These guys are awesome. I am totally new to jiu jitsu and I didn’t know what to expect. Ben and Jen made it really easy to get started. Ben is a great instructor. He has a real knack for communicating and zeroing in on exactly what the student needs in order to learn.

  3. I’ve been training here for a month now. I’ve trained MMA in Queens, NY 6 years ago for 1.5 years so I’m familiar with Striking and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Coach Ben Zapata is my favorite BJJ instructor. He is very specific in directions, friendly, and a great teacher. The school is friendly and welcoming. I feel comfortable training here. I like the warm up mat and the squat/weight rack. It’s also a clean school.

    I’ve trained MMA before this place and a few things I didn’t like was ego from both fellow students and instructors. Instructors that make you feel stupid/low for not knowing something they’re supposed to teach you. So far at Gracie Largo my experience has been positive. I would recommend it for anyone wanting to learn Jiu Jitsu for the first time or anyone wanting to get back into it. Also the prices are fair for the market of training.

  4. Jessica was such a positive energy! She was super nice to Ella, cheering for her during her match and making her feel comfortable. We really liked her a lot. We had a great time at your academy and are super impressed with your whole team. You guys are awesome, and we appreciate the experience! We are no strangers to traveling, competing, and dropping in on classes, but this was by far one of our best experiences. Thanks again!

  5. I am 36 years old and use to be really active in sports when I was younger in high school and in my 20’s. But then – as I became an adult and slowly weighted down from work/career I found myself feeling as if I was withering away due to my lack of physical activity. And knew, I know, I needed to make a change and get active again. In deciding what I wanted to do about it – I thought about martial arts. Something I have ZERO experience with. I knew I was interested in Jiu Jitsu as a UFC fan, particularly the Gracie family brand, and have always been amazed by all the incredible things that expert Jiu Jitsu practitioners are able to do in a match like Charles Oliviera and many others. I did my research online and found Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Largo and after searching thru several martial arts places and reading reviews to decide where to go – this is where I landed. And I am truly grateful it is. My nerves headed to my very first class dissipated almost immediately once class started. I felt GREAT. I felt excited and enthused! I felt drawn to Professor Ben and Coach Jen and their teaching. It’s perfect. It’s exciting, I have found myself wanting more and more! I cannot wait to continue this journey with them as my teachers. I am truly grateful to have found this gym, this group, these people. My peers are awesome, everyone is incredibly helpful! If you are looking for a martial art to start, or a Jiu Jitsu gym to join – I wholeheartedly suggest you look no further, you’ve landed in the right place!

    Amir is the quintessential friend, mentor and teacher. Amir takes pride in teaching all of his fighters how to have the proper respect and decorum for each art that we learn. I had no martial arts training before coming to the academy but after a few months with Amir I have more of a fighters mentality inside and outside of the ring. I highly encourage you to take a class and see for yourself.

    I was fortunate enough to personally train at Amir’s Academy of Martial Arts for 5 years. Master Amir has one of the biggest hearts, and wants nothing more than for everyone to get better and succeed. If anyone is thinking about training, whether your an adult or a child, in any type of martial arts I highly recommend training at this facility. Not only is Master Amir amazing, but all of his instructors are equally as knowledgeable and passionate. The classes are a blast, and the sparring is even more fun and completely safe. Check it out and decide for yourself, but I can almost guarantee you’ll love it there!

    Amir Academy is a top martial arts school. I started there in 1985 and was a student for a very long time. You will train hard, sweat hard, get into fantastic shape, become very physically conditioned, gain discipline, and discover yourself. The result is being best person you can be. They are very involved with local community. When you train with Amir you are not only getting a top instructor, you get the friendship and caring of the entire Ardebily family. Training here you become part of the Amir martial arts family, a brotherhood you will be part of for life

    I started going to Amir Academy in High School. Amir has been a lifelong teacher, mentor, and good friend for over 20 years now. His lessons are highly effective, well thought out, practical, and come from a variety of styles. The community of students throughout Tampa Bay have also been amazing people to meet. Through his personal training and XBC class I was able to lose over 50lbs in a very short period with no tricks or gimmick diets. I would recommend Amir Academy to anyone that wants to learn boxing, martial arts, or improve their personal health.

    Training at Inside Control is nothing short of amazing. I spent about a week in a half training with these guys while I was visiting Florida. My favorite part was the amount of time I was able to spend on the mat. Every couch was more than willing to get rounds in, at some gyms you don’t always get that opportunity. I give them 5 stars, not just for the great couches or amazing facility but for everyone I had a chance to grapple with while a was there. I am looking forward to the next time I am back in the st Petersburg area!!!

    I left my home gym of two years to come to Inside Control Academy, and I am so impressed with the coaching, facility and the welcoming and attentive atmosphere. I have taken classes led by Coach Q, Billy, Anton and Gabe. All of their classes have been through and informative. I thought I would struggle as I transition from Gi to NoGi, but the quality of teaching has made me love NoGi more than I ever have. I have seen Coach Q teach private lessons to the children that I nanny for, and they are learning so much and enjoying it. The kids classes are equally great as Coach Anton and Charlie and absolutely fantastic with keeping children both entertained and engaged. Impressive School for mixed martial arts, I would recommend to anyone.

    Me and my wife did a drop in here and the gym was warm and welcoming. We hit an open mat and they gym has a full house of skilled fighter who are controlled and tough as hell. I’ll definitely drop back into this gym when I find myself in Florida again.

    Great environment for learning Jiu Jitsu. I went as a visitor and they had a fun class with great rolling partners for an hour after class. Nice to see a gym teaching and experimenting with Leg Locks!
