What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Super close to downtown Ann Arbor, but secluded enough there was minimal road noise. We loved our stay at the Stone Chalet. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and kind, and treated us to late night cookies that were still warm. Usually I leave hotels with a sore back but our bed was so luxurious I didn’t want to leave. The details were so well thought out in our room, you can tell how much care was taken when thinking about the guests experience.

  2. Just finished our wonderful stay at the Stone Chalet! The building itself is very beautiful and well kept. Inside and out. Our room was the Ada room which was very whimsical and comfortable. Love the hobbit theme! It was the perfect special setting for my partner’s birthday. The room was very accommodating, you can find most things you’d need for a short stay right there in your room. Plus there was a small room near the kitchen with a decent selection of items such as snacks, soft drinks, bath bombs etc. Small things for convenience. Breakfast in the morning was very nice with a beautiful dining room and high quality food. I would absolutely stay again and will start recommending it to my friends. The owners have done a very nice job with the place, I’ve stayed at the Chalet one other time when I was very young, about 23 years ago and it was very different then! They’ve really brightened the place up. While still maintaining its historic style. If you’ve been on the fence about staying, hop off! You’ll have a lovely time.

  3. We were in Ann Arbor for the art fair and booked this charming B&B based on the pictures and comments. So glad I did! It was a delightful experience. The room was in the eaves of this historic mansion and was like a slice of elegance from the past with all the modern amenities. There is great WI-FI and no TV so you can really relax with one of the many books provided in your room and scattered about the house. It isn’t a snobbish stuffy museum, it is run by a darling young family who are fabulous in making sure you are having a good stay.
There is a lovely breakfast each morning in a bright dining room with chandeliers and fireplace, or seating on a cozy terrace surrounded by flowers and birds. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy this special place. We stayed 4 nights!!

  4. We stayed here for a wedding this weekend and everything was fantastic. Each room has its own unique theme with cool little artifacts all over the grounds. The host (Daisy) really makes an effort to make sure you feel at home. It honestly felt more like we were staying at a friends house than a B&B.

The breakfast was fantastic and made to order. I had the cream of wheat with chia which was some of the best I’ve ever had.

My wife and I are already looking for an excuse to go back soon.

  5. This bed and breakfast was, for the most part, very nice. Our room (China/Huntsman) was clean and our stay was quiet and the food was pretty good. The kitchen staff were lovely. I stayed with my partner last night while we travel across the US.

The reason I leave a mixed review is first because our shower did not work well. The water was a dribble. There did not appear to be anyone available to talk to about this.

The second reason is the more important one. Less than a block away from the Stone Chalet were men standing on both sides of Washtenaw Avenue picketing. As we drew closer to them, my partner and I realized that they were holding signs that displayed extremist anti-Semitic content. One sign read “Gas Chambers….? Really????”

If anyone at the Stone Chalet knew that there were anti-Semitic picketers standing a short distance away from the doors, someone should have warned us before we arrived. I find it very hard to believe that the Stone Chalet did not know about these men, as they had approximately 20 signs and were standing on both sides of the street, yelling at traffic. It appeared as though this was a regular occurrence, as no other traffic other than our car even slowed down to see what was going on.

This shouldn’t be important, but I am Jewish. As a Jewish guest, I’d have stayed elsewhere and avoided seeing Holocaust deniers so close to a bed and breakfast that I was staying at. Unfortunately, at check out time, no one was there for us to report this to. We left feeling very uncomfortable and hoping that a Google review will alert others to maybe choose somewhere else to stay if they don’t feel like being exposed to this sort of extremist hate speech.

Edit: I have read the response from Stone Chalet and found it lacking. What I wish is not for the Chalet to control the behaviour of people in Ann Arbor, but to commit to warning people, now that they are aware of anti-Semitic protests happening just down the street, that it is a possibility that guests may encounter same. My priority was to get out of the area as quickly as possible for my own safety and that of my partner, not to try and reach the Chalet staff using one of apparently many online means. To suggest that it is incumbent upon guests to do this after being exposed to targeted hate speech is simply absurd.

How to Find an Airbnb Near You That’s Perfect for Your Needs

There are many ways to find an Airbnb near you in US cities. Here are a few of the best ways:

  • Use the Airbnb website or app. This is the most obvious way to find an Airbnb, and it’s also the easiest. Simply enter your desired location and dates, and you’ll be presented with a list of available Airbnbs. You can filter the results by price, number of bedrooms, amenities, and other factors.
  • Use a third-party website or app. There are a number of third-party websites and apps that list Airbnbs. These websites can be a good way to find Airbnbs that aren’t listed on the Airbnb website, or to compare prices from different sources. Some popular third-party websites and apps include:
    • VRBO: Vacation Rental By Owner
    • HomeAway: HomeAway
    • Booking.com: Booking.com
    • Expedia: Expedia
  • Ask your friends or family. If you know someone who has stayed in an Airbnb, they may be able to recommend a good one for you. They may also be able to give you some insider tips on how to get the best deal.
  • Search social media. There are a number of social media groups and forums where people post about their Airbnb experiences. These can be a good way to get honest feedback from other travelers.
  • Attend a local travel fair. Many cities host travel fairs where you can meet with Airbnb hosts and learn more about their properties. This can be a great way to find an Airbnb that’s perfect for your needs.

Once you’ve found a few Airbnbs that you’re interested in, be sure to read the reviews carefully. This will give you a good idea of what other guests have experienced. You should also contact the host with any questions you have.

Friendly staff. Reasonable price. Queen suite was adequate, with comfortable bed. Kitchen area had what we needed for a few days. The room was dusty in places but generally clean. Now for the negative: there was a ungodly shrill fire alarm late-late at night. Some guests came out into the hallways but no one seemed to take it seriously. There was NOT ONE communication from staff throughout. Less serious: Parking lot and driveways in were riddled with potholes. Pot smells throughout hallways. Cigarette butts all over patio/BBQ area. Trash cans at the ends of hallways too full to use. Gotta say, though—staff was wonderful.

Large room at a very reasonable price. It was very nice to be able to really stretch out and relax. The full kitchen amenities makes life so much easier when you are traveling. Wanted a bottle of wine but no corkscrew? No worries, there is one in the drawer by the stove. It’s the little things!

Nothing bad to say about this location. Exceeded my expectations and would absolutely stay again. That said, please be careful if you book using a third party like Priceline. I was under the assumption my pet fee was included but was charged an additional $75 because it was not included. This is not the fault of Sonesta, but use caution when booking with a third party app.

Nice comfortable rooms with ample work desk, comfortable office chair, and well equipped kitchenette. Provides a good selection of television channels including HBO and a decent gym. Walking distance to mall and many restaurants and only a couple miles to downtown Ann Arbor. Complimentary laundry and clean laundry room are great perk and one of main reasons I choose to stay here for extended stays. Front desk staff are also helpful and provide excellent customer service.

Great location, very happy staff to welcome us. Room has a kitchenette, pet friendly, the room we got must have been occupied by smokers though …

We were on a fun trip with really no plans, we just hopped in the car and drove from Ohio to Michigan. We stopped in Ann Arbor and were looking for a place to stay. I looked online and there wasn’t much left in the area so I clicked on the Extended Stay America room that came up. We wanted near the stadium and cool places in town and this place was perfect! I was nervous about the low rating it had, but this place was really perfect. Staff were really welcoming and friendly (we checked in way early), it was super close to state st, the stadium and very nice places to eat and visit, and it was very clean. We were very comfortable in our queen bed suite for two nights!! I only gave it 4 stars because the cost was a little high (we booked last min though) and it could use a few upgrades here and there.

It was okay. But I have low standards.

The irony of seeing the “welcome to a smoke-free building” while smelling weed gave me a laugh.

Front desk, though took few minutes to let me in, was courteous.

    My room smelled like dog.

The A/C worked well and I was able to get decent sleep.

Wasn’t 100% clean visually, either. Which is concerning as to what uncleanliness there is of which I can’t see. (Pictures below of my shower curtain and sink)

Doors slam when left to close on their own.

    They provide breakfast.

Breakfast is coffee, Quaker oat packets, and nature valley bars. (Breakfast bar pictured below)

For few bucks more, you can stay at one of the neighboring hotels and get a much better experience.

Had to stay here a few nights and it couldn’t have been worse. The staff are rude and inconsiderate. The manager of this location is worse. The prices are ridiculous and fluctuate every day. I came here with a partner and we needed to stay an extra night but we’re a little short. Asked if we could have a hour to get the money. We’re reassured that would be okay. My partner goes down to the front desk to pay and the manager threatens to put him on a “refuse to rent list” . This whole stay its one person telling us one thing and then going to try and do it, for other people to be very rude and nasty towards us. I do NOT recommend staying here. Please go spend your momey somewhere else. Go somewhere people might actually treat you like a person. Something tells me the good reviews were bought…

Friendly staff at check in but the type of room I had reserved and paid for wasn’t available. I’m not picky but the bed was like sleeping on a piece of plywood. This place needs some real maintenance and updating. The kitchenette counter was stained and chipped, and it’s all just past its prime. The room smelled like it used to be a smoking room.

I’m taking time to write this review because this location has improved so much since I first stayed here three years ago. The staff is friendly and helpful and rooms are immaculate. I can’t recommend this location enough. I find it funny that Google rates it 2 stars, much better than that.
