What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Did a drop-in class this Saturday morning and was truly impressed with how welcome Chewy and everyone else made me feel as a visiting student.

Rolls were great and quite technical. Class focused on two, sequential techniques with plenty of time to drill and spar out of each position–letting you first learn and then workshop each move.

Felt good to be in a gym practicing jiu-jitsu with great people!

  2. Incredible Gym! Chewy is as awesome in real life as he is in his YouTube videos. You immediately feel welcome in the gym. Incredible technique, and what a teacher he is. Also, he is a LEGIT black belt, so skilled. I appreciated everything about the Instruction and the atmosphere. 10/10 👏🏽💪🏽

  3. Chewy was one of the best instructors i’ve ever met. He was super welcoming and friendly. We immediately felt at home and were treated like longtime members. I highly recommend this gym to absolutely anyone.

  4. I was in Louisville to see some family and came into this gym as a walk in and I can’t recommend this place enough. I was treated like family and I really wish I lived here or I would be a member 100%. Chewy and the rest of the crew really care about your progression in Jiu-Jitsu and want to help all they can. 10/10 If you live in the area and are thinking about getting a membership i please do not hesitate and take advantage of that awesome gym!!!!!!

  5. Was in the area and asked if I could drop in for a class and they said come on in! Great staff, great instruction and cool people to roll with if you live in that area or are passing through hit them up it will be worth your time. Definitely my home away from home when I am in that area!

UPDATE: 1/16/2023 Dropped in again and had a blast! I standby the original review and comments if you are in the area contact them!

I used to train with the owner back when he was a kid with a dream in the back of a discount gym with a red tabby group of guys. He sure has come along way. The gym is great, and clean. The people are skilled, yet friendly. Kids are around so it’s family friendly. There’s an entire boxing ring! You have to get here!

This place is awesome. Any beginners who have been putting off getting into MMA this is a great place to start. Everyone at the gym was warm and welcoming. I left my first class excited about starting down this road. Not to mention a great work out.

This place is amazing, there’s a lot of hard working fighters there and a great place to train I did a free trial for boxing and am going to be going regularly. Aaron is a great instructor and keeps the class fun while getting an intense workout. Also I met the owner and head coach, he introduced himself to me and gave me motivation to try other classes

Took my son Blake to the gym. He started the youth Jujitsu program. It’s been about 4 months now. And I can’t believe the boost in confidence I’ve seen in him. The teachers are AMAZING. The youth classes are great. A perfect mix of fun and informative. Not to mention all the adult members treat him like family and are always willing to take the time to correct and teach him. And then there’s the owner. Phil Perkins is the best!!! Treats everyone like family and is very willing to answer questions and give advice. . We love area 502.

Would be 5 star but…. EDIT: I have now edited this review to a five star. Thank you for the reply EDIT 2: I have now come to another conclusion that the training is quite expensive. Not to mention the fees you pay on your first sign up. A very expensive I believe $140. I do not understand this and I believe it has caused a lot of people to steer away from it. Maybe to a different gym. Boxing is $100 a month which isn’t bad until you take into comparison of other gyms offering around $50-70 a month. Not to Take anything away from this gym. It’s still good but it is pricey. Also boxing coaches without a doubt have favorites So in my opinion this is a great gym overall but here are a few reasons why I didn’t give it a 5 star. The boxing classes are boring and many, not just me but many feel that they are not learning much because all we do is hit the bag which is great for workout and form but we do not feel we can get good at boxing by just hitting the bag. And we wish the coach would do more one on one training. Muay Thai is great but i believe the coach should go over details more. As for the wrestling, it’s a 10/10 just wish there were more classes. But still a 10/10

My kids love training at this academy! The instructors are patient, get on the kids’ level physically and through verbal instruction, and genuinely care about their students. The atmosphere is like one big family and from the moment you walk in the door you feel welcome.

It’s a perfect environment for anyone to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu regardless or age or fitness level. Professor Smith has cultivated a supportive culture at his Academy making each class a joy to attend. More experienced students are always willing to provide instruction or advice. They support student who want to compete but do not aggressively push competition. My daughter and son have trained their for 7 and 3 years respectively. I believe the atmosphere at this academy turned my children into practitioners for life.

I dropped into a couple gyms in Kentucky. Overall, I’ve dropped in at over 10 gyms and this gym is my favorite so far. It is very similar to my gym of 9 years and that’s probably because they’re both Pedro Sauer Association gyms. If you are part of PSA, you’ll understand. Even if you aren’t, you will learn some high level jiu jitsu and have fun doing it over here. This school has multiple instructors, and they are all highly technical and their classes connect which gives you a great learning experience if you’re a beginner or an experienced jiu jitsu practitioner. I reached out online to inquire about dropping in since I was in town. They answered me back quickly with the class times. Upon arrival, The owner, Professor Scott Smith (4th degree Black Belt), welcomed me and introduced me to some of the staff and other members. I was able to take classes under multiple instructors and it just blew my mind on the details of each technique taught. In regards to the facility, there is a huge mat area and everyone can comfortably train. When you walk in, there’s the front desk and a lounge area. They have changing rooms for males and females and two restrooms. They keep the facility clean and sanitize the mats after each class session (morning/evening). Do yourself a favor and check out this gym if you want to learn Gracie Jiu Jitsu!

This academy is the best around. The family atmosphere and emphasis on jiu-jitsu fundamentals is what drew us here, but the unexpected life lessons that my children have learned is what keeps us here. They are more disciplined, polite and all around good humans directly because of this academy and their instructors.

My daughter decided to try Jiu-Jitsu 1.5 years ago and hasn’t looked back. She spends 3-4 nights a week in classes and part of the day on Saturday and enjoys every minute. It’s like one big family where everyone gets to know every one. The instructors are amazing and do a great job keeping the kids involved. The facility is clean and everyone is friendly. Highly recommended if you want to get your child involved in Martial Arts.
