What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. I was looking for a dojo to train while working in Cape Coral. Professor Corey Brown has made me feel very welcomed. The environment he has created for the students is awesome. Thanks to the Professor and awesome training partners, I have seen my Jiu-Jitsu improve in the short time I’ve been training here. The Professor’s passion for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu is clearly shown through his actions, words, and methods of teaching us. If you are looking for a great place to train Jiu-Jitsu in Cape Coral, this is the place for you.

  2. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Black Tie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was struck by the positive energy and friendliness of everyone at the gym. Corey, the owner, was especially welcoming and took the time to personally introduce himself to me. He is a highly knowledgeable, a passionate instructor, and his enthusiasm for Jiu Jitsu is contagious. The facility itself is clean and well-maintained, and the other instructors and students are all welcoming and supportive. My experience at Black Tie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been fantastic, and I always look forward to training there when I’m in town. I highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in Jiu Jitsu. If you’re in the area, be sure to drop by and train – you won’t be disappointed.

  3. Black Tie is an amazing place to train if you’re looking to complete or just want a fun environment to learn bjj all the guys are more than willing to help new people improve thank you professor corey for all the help

  4. Black Tie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is full of amazing people from Professor Corey and the coaches to the people that train. We moved to the area in 2019, my oldest son, new to the schools, had a very hard time fitting in right away. We signed him up with Black Tie and watched him blossom, gaining confidence and friendships with the kids his age. The kids and adult classes are taught by knowledgeable and skillful individuals. My husband trains there now too. Soon enough it will be the entire family. We are so happy to have found a gym that feels like family.

  5. My son who left another martial arts school, and was supposedly done with martial arts gave Corey a chance after an instructor from his old school called me. The instructor said Corey just came down, heard about my son and wanted to meet him. Had to convince him to go, but ever since then he has grown exponentially in every way. He was technically Corey’s first full time student. They treat him like family. I would recommend Black Tie BJJ to anyone.

Mby sons Daniel and Timothy, and I have trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 3 years in Denver, CO. We love every opportunity to continue training even on vacation just like tonight with Professor Brock Garlick here at City of Palms Jiu Jitsu. We are very, very happy to participate in this class of great instruction and wonderful friendly atmosphere. We definitely recommend this gym to everyone. We plan to be back next No Gi class on Tuesday 🙂 . Thank you Professor! Max Dikovitskiy

City of Palms has been everything I had hoped it would be when considering learning Jiu-Jitsu. I started here about a year and a half ago at the age of 47. The vibe I got from Professor Brock and everyone there was inviting, supportive, encouraging and definitely challenging. My youngest daughter (age 9) started at the same time I did and has made some of the best friendships. I visited several locations prior to COP and I knew COP was the right choice. I absolutely recommended City of Palms as a great place to train for Adults and Kids at any level of experience!

Our 7 year old has been with this wonderful school for a month now. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. Our son is a little bit smaller than most kids his age. He’s also the youngest of 5, and gets a run for his money most days. We wanted him to learn discipline and how to defend himself if needed. We also wanted him to be a part of something that brought him a sense of community and confidence. The staff and students here are amazing, and very respectful. We were blown away at how respectful each student was and how they embraced our son like he’s been there since day one. The very environment we want him in. The coaches are very patient and get on the kids level. Each class you see an improvement with each kid in the class. Even though we have moved back to Parrish (an hour and a half north) we’ve made it a priority to attend at least 2 classes a week. We found a place for him that he loves and is improving him in so many ways. We are so grateful for finding City of Palms 🤙🏽

About a year ago I took the leap and decided to start training BJJ and honestly as cliche as it is to say I wish I would have sooner. Jiu-jitsu has really pushed me out of my comfort zone and the obsession is real. It’s real life problem solving with dire physical consequences. My workouts outside of the mats now have a purpose other than to just stay fit – focusing on mobility and conditioning. My free time at night now consist of watching competition footage and anything BJJ related . My eating habits have cleaned up and for the first time since my time in the military I feel at home surrounded by like minded Individuals. There’s something special about being in a room full hard working people who are all working towards the same goal – to be the best versions of themselves and learn something beneficial at the same time. All my training partners over at CITY OF PALMS have welcomed me with open arm(bars). It’s a safe but competitive atmosphere that Coach Brock and the rest of the leadership have created. So happy I found this sport / martial art and even more grateful For the family atmosphere, professionalism and cleanliness at City of Palms. If you live or ever visit SWFL, make sure you take the time and visit this location you won’t regret it!

I was in town for Mother’s Day and was looking for a place to train for a few days as I have IBJJF Baton Rouge coming up. They were super kind and let me join them for some great technical training and an amazing workout. I definitely feel like I was able to grow visiting this gym. I’ve got some new cards up my sleeve that I can’t wait to practice back at my home gym. Much love to everyone at City of Palms! I’ll be back next time I’m in town! Oh, also I got some super sick merch from them. Y’all check em out!

Seems like there is favoritism which is disappointing. My child went there for 14 months and after the charade from the owner explaining to me that my child is “behind” (he always picks on her) and needs to be evaluated (her teacher at school disagrees, shes advanced in all areas) in front of all the parents, my daughter cried when we left and told me she doesn’t want to go back ever again and that “sensai is so mean to me”. Unprofessional, disrespectful and entirely innapropriate. We saw signs for a while thay he only chose to pick on her and yell at her during class when other children were doing worse than her. When she learns new moves she does them correctly, she tries so hard and only gets yelled at by the OWNER, no other instructor has an issue with her. When she raises her hand to complete something he never calls on her and if he does its after 20 minutes. Any child who sits for 20 minutes doing nothing will look around and stop paying attention. I asked him if more private classes would help (with no intention of doing it just wanted to see what he would say) of course he said NO and then said YES, proving they want more money. What a joke. For him to say in front of a crowd of people that my child will have issues in her life was over the line for me. Shes smart and smart enough to know when an adult is being rude. The owner is a bully with a major ego trip.

This Dojo is amazing! I love that the kids have to really earn their belts not just handed to them. The staff actually teach these children how to become outstanding citizens of this country, not just in it for the money. They want the children to exceed in all areas of their life, not just in the dojo. Always there if you need them. Great with redirecting children’s behavior and always so positive and supportive.

I absolutely love coming to my classes at MAU. The teachers take time to work with me when I need it and they know when to push me. I started going to MAU a month ago and in my short time there I have felt such a strong connection from the staff and the fellow students. It truly is a family and you feel welcome. I see my fellow classmates as family and when they compete I want them to succeed. I love MAU.

It’s 3:27 right now, and it’s closed. The hours on a Saturday are from 9 til 6, but it’s closed now, came all the way here for nothing. There’s a car here but no one inside.
