What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. Open-air dinner at the end of the year! The temperature in the evening is very low, but the outdoor insulation measures of the restaurant are well done, and the outdoor is very warm. The service was good, and each of us ordered a main course, but each dish didn’t leave a deep impression. Punch in here once!

  2. Decent French food restaurant in Santana Row. Nice atmosphere and seating indoors and outdoors. Some tasty appetizers such as the French Onion soup and escargot. Lamb entre is quite tasty. Good selection of desserts. Okay wine selection.

  3. Had a great family dinner at an outdoor table right in front of the restaurant front door. Weather was great albeit it became a bit chilly as night falls. The waitress kindly turned on the heater tower for us.

The foods were generally quite good. Wished the breads used in the dishes could have better texture, chewiness, and flavor. They tend to be a bit hard and dry.

Service was ok. Perhaps they were short-staffed so sometimes service was slower than desired.

  4. A lovely restaurant with some great outdoor seating. Perfect place to relax, have a meal, and people watch. The service was great during our whole meal. Food was also great with the exception of the onion soup. I wish it had more onion flavor and onions themselves in the dish. But overall we had an excellent time. Would definitely come back and check out their dinner menu.

  5. The only thing we enjoyed here was the fries. I’m not sure how but everything else including the drinks tasted horrible. Our waiter also never came back to check in on us. For a place with $$$, the presentation was subpar. Even the plates looks so old and scratched. We sat by the window and the windowsill had cobwebs, old food and dead insects. Not a good experience at all. Will not be back.

Delicious meal that is upscale but still reasonably priced considering the quantity and quality of food you’re getting. Ordered a smattering of dishes from snails, oysters, cheese plate for appetizers. Each one was very light delicate, not large portion size but still filling and very flavorful. The entrees on the other hand were the star of the show. Big portions, proteins executed to perfection and the 38 North Duck Breast is absolutely to die for. Huge whole duck breast, perfectly cooked medium rare, crispy crackling skin, soft tender meat but juicy despite the lean cut. Would come back solely for that dish. Desserts were also impeccable with traditional French preparations. Croissant bread pudding, chocolate pudding, Apple tart. Each one very unique but well executed in preparation. Service was very friendly and food came pretty quickly. Was able to make a same day reservation without trouble for 4 people and the restaurant is quite large. Parking lot outside makes it easy to not have to hunt for parking in downtown San Jose but we did take the last parking spot so try to come a little early just in case.

Delicious food. Vegetarian friendly options available. Good portions for their small plates. Had the grilled mushroom entree, mussels and gnocchi small plates and the bread pudding for dessert that you see in the pictures. We both left very full. Service was great. The only thing is the outside ambiance could be better to elevate the experience. We were celebrating and they were kind enough to offer us some complimentary sparkling wine which we appreciated!

Black Sheep Brasserie is French/American restaurant locating around willow glen area. Please make reservations before you come if you have a large party, otherwise, long wait. The indoor seating is nicely decorated. The outdoor seating is a bit noisy as it is just next to the main road, so pick your spot. The service is on the spot. The server is quick and attentive. The food is super salty, even we asked to dial down on the salt, the 7 of us all felt it is a bit over seasoned. The food portion is on average, enough for a bit for 4 people. So if you have large party, like us, make sure you order enough. The food is slightly disappointing, the dessert get some credit back. Also, there is a good selection of wine and cocktails, it is not bad. The 7 of us runs a total around 800 with a bottle of wine, so about 110 per person.

There were so many delicious options on the menu that we decided to try a little of everything and skip the entrees. Everything was delicious and would recommend. Only critique is that the beer tartare needed a little more salt to balance the richness of the double egg. Our server was also very attentive and really sweet – would go back!

A neighborhood gem. Free easy to find parking, popular laid back area near transit & the center of town, inviting contemporary decor, friendly efficient staff & prompt service. Most important the food is very good. The salad was delicious, appeared simple, but had wonderful layers of flavor. Similarly, the hamburger was not much more than the paddy & the bun but was moist and one of the best tasting burgers I’ve ever had (albeit a tad bit too salty). The bourbon cocktail I had was also very nice. I will definitely be back!

A three course meal is $150 (with tips, taxes, no drinks). The dishes are authentically French, the glazed eggplant and chilled lobster were excellent (course 1), the sole and couscous were both great as well. We had the chocolate coconut dessert, it was all chocolate. They also served three amuse-bouche, all yum (especially the beet). Service is prompt and attentive. The atmosphere is a bit old, but tasteful.

Very nice dinner experience. I have been to this restaurant before the pandemic. This is the first visit after reopening. Food and service are still excellent just as expected even not a Michelin star restaurant. I ordered the more flexible four course dinner menu, no matter the presentation, taste , portion are just right. Plus the 2012 Abreu Rothwell Hyde, what a nice dinning experience. If you order the same wine, make sure to have the server to decant wine for about an hour, that should bring out the full potential of the wine. In my opinion, for such a good food, good wine with reasonable price tab, this is a hidden germ in the city. I sure will come again and again.

Le Papillon is a great south bay spot for fine dining. Everything on the menu is delicious and filling, and fairly affordable too (3 courses = $105. 4 courses = $125). The highlights for us were the chilean sea bass as well as the Dungeness crab souffle. Service and atmosphere are great as well. Would definitely recommend.

The tasting menu is not worth $160. Cod is fishy and the sauce doesn’t match it. Same problem with the abalone. The alcohol in cream made the dessert taste bitter. The appetizer is great though.

Very delicious French cuisines! Romantic atmosphere with indoor dining only. Decent portions. Recommend to dress up a bit…
