  1. My husband and I had a romantic dinner at Anjou a few weeks ago. We chose to sit at a booth in the bar which is typical for us. It was lively but not over crowded and we felt cocooned in our corner booth. It was nice to be able to view the other patrons without really being noticed. The service was on par, our waiter was efficient and attentive. But the star of this experience was the food. I had the filet with compound butter, medium rare, with asparagus and the dauphinois potatoes. My steak had a wonderfully charred crust and was cooked to perfection. My husband had the lamb chops mid rare with roasted potatoes and vegetables. We were absolutely satiated. A delightful experience.

  2. We had dinner at Anjou, and it was very nice. While they had an extensive selection of wines, they didn’t really have any significant selection of spirits, which was disappointing.

    I had the ribeye steak, with potatoes and asparagus. The food was all exceptional, and well worth the price paid. The cheesecake desert was ok, but fairly dry. The appetizers were all great though!

    I knocked off one star due to service though. While in mid conversation with our business partner, the waitress walked up and tried to talk over us, and then in a disgruntled manner, walked away quickly while rolling her eyes. I’m sure this can’t be a common thing, but it was enough to make everyone at the table notice and be less satisfied with the meal.

    Anjou is a great restaurant and we had a good experience. The waitress’ attitude wouldn’t stop me from giving this another try in the future.

  3. Ate On The Patio During Dinnertime (Highly Recommended). Atmosphere Was Quiet, Was Able To Enjoy The Meal As I Looked Out Towards The Pond (A Few Ducks In Sight).

    There Was A Bread Appetizer That Was Delicious. A Simple White Bread That Was Served Warm, With A Nice Crunch To The Crust, Though A Soft Interior That Melted With The Butter. (Yum)

    Ordered The Sweetest Red Wine ( A Blend) Though This Was Offered Warm. Was Unable To Detect Any Sweet Notes Or Find The Wine Pleasant Through The Biting Alcoholic Flavor. This Was Unfavorable Though Didn’t Detract From The Entree Or Appetizer.

    The Menu Was Simple To Understand With Common Ingredients. Was Able To Navigate The Food Options With Ease (Even Though I Am Unfamiliar With Southern/French Cuisine).

    Best Part Was The Rum Bread Pudding! Would Have Taken A Photo, Though This Was Consumed Quite Quickly 😉

  4. This is probably my 4th time eating at this restaurant. But today was the best that I have experienced this far. I can’t remember the male bartenders name but his service was excellent. He also made a great tasting Amaretto sour. It was so good that I had a 2nd and I rarely drink alcoholic beverages.

    I had the shrimp linguine and as usual I started eating before taking photos 😃 It was very good and I’ll probably go back soon to order it once again.

    I love the location and outdoor seating. It’s a very relaxing environment. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant!

  5. Delicious. You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. We sat outside on the patio which made for a lovely time.

    I went here for brunch in this past Sunday with my sister and two dear cousins we had not seen since the pandemic started. So, it was a very special occasion. The environment is great – inside and out. The music was fantastic. My sister said the shrimp and grits were the best she ever had! I had the creole omelet and enjoyed it immensely. If I lived in Jackson I would go to La Cour all the time.

    Everything was great! Our waiter Makaila was a dream! Perfect timing when checking on us, kept us updated, and wasn’t overbearing. The food was cooked to perfection. We had appetizers (you must try the lamb chops), entrees and dessert. Everything we had was great. This is not your average place to eat. You most certainly will not be disappointed if you like great food!

    Weekday evening double date. I’ve waited a couple of weeks to post this review because I’m still not sure how I feel about this place. Pros: food is tasty, drinks well made, nice location, and interesting menu. Cons: the staff seemed all over the place, there wasn’t a tremendous knowledge about the menu, the saxophone was incredibly loud to the point of impeding conversation even from the far side of the room, and we were given a free $12 appetizer coupon after spending in excess of $100 per person for dinner. It just felt like an identity struggle between down home cafe and upscale eatery. This would be a perfect spot to come from drinks and a shared appetizer.

    The only reason that I am giving a 4 star review is because I originally went here for a wine tasting. The wine tasting itself wasn’t thought out to well considering most of the women were wearing heels and had no where to sit. My friend girl and I ordered food just so we could sit at a table. But I must say we got way more than we expected. The food was great, the vibes were great, the service was exceptional, just an overall great experience that completely made up for the awful planned out wine tasting. Jarvis, who was a manager showed us great hospitality! I will most definitely be back! If it wasn’t for the wine tasting I would have given 5 stars! It would be a great date night restaurant.

    A little bit biased by the fact that it’s in the middle of the beautiful Highland Village courtyard. The food was great and the pasta wasn’t salty, which we really liked. But oh boy that Brussels sprout with candy pecans!!! were fabulous and I’ve never ever really liked brussels sprout but this must be the first time my fork continuously went towards the veggie candies🍬. It’s like eating a healthy candy so there is no guilt as I tell myself, ‘I’m definitely eating veggies’

    Chef Zack is amazing. We were given 9 courses and every single one was incredible. I do not like vinaigrette and my husband doesn’t like cabbage but this was the exception for both. He even made a grill cheese that was out of this world. The experience is great as well. You are in a room with only 4 other people and the chef explains each dish himself. It is a very sociable and fun experience. We have tried many tastings and this is by far the best. Chef Zack is a local treasure who could be successful anywhere but I am glad he is local as we can continue to enjoy. We will definitely be booking again. Highly highly recommend. A great way to start off the new year.

    Chef Zacchaeus is a wonderful talent who is doing something that’s unique to Jackson. His execution of each dish is done with extreme care and is presented with just the right touch of hospitable sophistication. Just the right blend of familiar and not so familiar ingredients creates visual interest and intrigue that lend to a satisfying experience of flavor and layered texture. Caution – this place isn’t for everybody. But if you’re looking for a culinary experience that expands and excites your palate, give Southern Soigne’ a try.

    Very cool restaurant anywhere but especially in Jackson. I love a spot with a soul and you definitely feel that here. The food was perfectly seasoned and well-prepared. There was nothing out of place and no complaints. Pay the $5 uncorking fee online and it’s BYOB. Everyone there brought bottles of wine (honey mead for us) and wine glasses were provided. The tasting starts 30 min after arrival so you have time to look around at the art and explore the house. It’s definitely a great date night or small group activity!

    This place is so special. It was a wonderful dining experience. The dinner consisted of 7 finely assembled items. Smoked ice-cream is an experimental dessert I will not forget. The ice cream with bananas and caramel was my favorite though. The atmosphere was cozy, and Chef and his assistant made me feel welcomed. Best of luck to this entity! I hope more people will give this place a try.

    TLRD: a very hit-or-miss experience that is not worth the price at this point My husband and I were SO looking forward to coming to this restaurant as a celebration of being married for a week. Unfortunately, we were severely disappointed. Don’t overlook the poor reviews given to this place—they definitely had truth to them. We gave Southern Soigne the benefit of the doubt and were unfortunately burned by it. The atmosphere cannot be blamed on the restaurant itself since it’s part time an art gallery, but there are ways to make due with what you have. Using what sounded like a speaker to play a spotify playlist that sounds more like it could be played at Walmart…not the right move. Even if this restaurant is just starting, there’s no reason why you can’t play something that helps make the atmosphere seem a bit more upscale. There was little decoration on the table, though the silverware was nice. The wait staff was the best part of the experience. Margie was a doll, and we enjoyed our interactions with her more than that with the chef. We paid $165 each for a 10-12 course chef’s tasting dinner. We were only served 6 courses, though the quality of the food (and the flat affect of the chef) didn’t have us asking for the rest of them. When you read Chef Golden’s accolades online, you’d expect something other than mostly chicken for the dishes. Course one had chicken skin, course two was a drumstick, course three was a flat wing with venison stuffed inside of it, and course four was lamb and (you guessed it) chicken sausage. I wouldn’t mind paying $60 per person to have this much chicken in a meal, but there is no way that our meal was worth even half of what we paid, especially when the fourth course was vegetables, and the fifth course was an orange and grapefruit salad—definitely not pricey ingredients to constitute charging such a large amount per person. Was the food good? Sure. Was it something to write home about? Not really, though that could be blamed on the fact that so much of it was chicken (which I believe you can only elevate so much). I would value the six courses that we were served to be worth $50 per person at the most, not $165. For that amount of money, I’d expect to eat dishes with more choice ingredients than chicken. The portions are smaller, but this is to be expected with a tasting menu containing many courses. Don’t walk in with the intentions of leaving with a fully belly, even if you do get all the courses that you pay for. Overall, there need to be some drastic improvements made before we risk wasting our money again (but odds are, we won’t be returning.) Don’t be deceived by the online sample menu like we were! This was an absolute waste of night for us.
