  1. Checkmat Valencia is one of the most welcoming gyms I’ve ever stepped foot in! I came in for a trial class without any previous BJJ experience whatsoever. Professor Art and Professor Leka were so welcoming, understanding and broke everything down step by step to ensure I felt comfortable. The team and the professors are so incredibly sweet and they have built up such a positive family environment. I’m so happy I gave this place a shot and can’t wait to grow with them!

  2. My kids have been training at Checkmat for close to a year now, and I am genuinely grateful to have found this gym. The instructors are kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. The gym itself is large, immaculate, and provides ample parking.

    As a mother my number one priority is the safety of my children. I have absolutely no qualms regarding their care and safety at Checkmat Valencia. One of my kids is on the shyer side, and the instructors worked at his pace, allowing him to get comfortable and build his confidence slowly without adding any unnecessary pressure.

    My husband is also a gym member and is very happy here as well. In due time it’ll be my turn to begin training, and guess where I’ll be signing up? That’s right, Checkmat Valencia. 😉

  3. Great place for women looking to train! This gym has a great community of women who train regularly. You will never be the only girl in class again. And the men are all respectful and good partners. Professor Leka and Professor Art are both amazing instructors and very encouraging. They create a supportive community for all. Entire families train here – kids and their parents. You’re not just joining a gym, but a family.

  4. My experience with Checkmat Valencia has been amazing. Having never trained a martial art before, I was hesitant to join, but on my first day everyone was very welcoming. No matter what skill level an individual is, the Professors and others students are always willing to help and motivate the person to improve. I would definitely recommend becoming a part of the Checkmat family!

  5. My son found his happy place at Checkmat. His passion for the sport has grown thanks to the support he has received from Prof. Leka and the coaching staff. It’s been a year since we joined the gym and my 6 and 9 year old look forward to each training day. As a parent, I love how organized the program is. The classes are right sized to ensure the kids receive quality instruction. There is a balance between hard work and play. My husband and I couldn’t be happier and highly recommend Checkmat !

    Professor Bruno Antunes and Honor Roll BJJ has become a huge part of my families lives for many years as we all started our journey as white belts. My wife and I are now brown belts! Our son and daughter started first and then my wife and I joined after and we all couldn’t be happier. The training is top notch and the exercise is the best you will ever experience as well as teaching you how to defend yourself and increasing confidence. On top of that, the environment there is very friendly. You go to train and exercise, but your not by yourself as your training along side your partners and friends and everyone helps each other to become better. We have also participated in many big and small tournaments and the travels turn into mini vacations. This is the lifestyle at Honor Roll and we love it!

    I’ve been training for 5-years now and it has been nothing but a great experience. This gym has a friendly environment where experienced people take time to show you moves and making sure you feel welcomed and informed. This is a great place to train and I would recommend everyone to come try out one class.

    I have had my 8 and 4 year old boys training here for almost a year now. The family atmosphere they have developed here is second to none. I have seen both my boys thrive in Ju Jitsu but also socially with the other great kids they train with. Bruno and all of the other coaches always have the best interest of the kids in mind and insure that have fun while learning to defend themselves.

    When I travel for work or to see family in Santa Clarita, I will drop into Honor Roll to get some training in. As someone that travels a lot, I’ve dropped into many gyms across the country and this has to be one of my favorites! Each time I’ve come in, Bruno, the instructors, and the entire team have been extremely welcoming. Their level of instruction is top-notch, the class format helps with improvement, and there is a huge level of respect amongst training partners. To anyone visiting or living in the area, I would highly recommend training at Honor Roll!

    This program has been a game changer for our son. Before finding Trident Martial Arts, all he wanted to do was play video games, but now he asks me every day if he has Taekwondo and is really excited to attend classes. The staff at Trident is beyond welcoming and really made Jude feel at home and part of their amazing team. Jude’s athletic ability has improved substantially in just 30 days. Can’t wait to see what he can accomplish in the future.

    I signed my step-son up here recently as he has been super excited about martial arts. At first my son enjoyed it, thanks to the great staff who created a welcoming space for students new to the arts. However, working with the owner, Master Gast has been one of the most difficult and frustrating parts of the school. He is blatantly offensive and rude and I have since unenrolled my child.
