What People Are Saying: 5 Customer Reviews

  1. I had my first bad physical about two months ago and my doctor got on me about being more active. I hate going to the gym so I started looking around at martial arts classes and stumbled upon Gracie Ohio so I signed up for an introductory class. It’s the best decision I have made in a long time. Everyone is kind and supportive and generally amazing, especially with a fat, old guy like me. I am getting in shape, learning to protect myself and having a blast in the process. The best part is now my young daughters want to come and do the kids program! It’s really awesome to have an activity to share with my kids that we both enjoy. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!

  2. The instructors and experienced members have been incredibly kind and welcoming. The environment of the classes is so positive and supportive. My first few classes have been a great experience.

  3. Love this community and the brand new, massive NEW LOCATION!

When I finally decided to get back into Martial Arts and was considering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, many people suggested I meet Robin Giesler and his Relson Gracie academy. I found the Gieseler’s and their instructors to be quality people, with a heart to teach both kids AND adults the gentle art of JiuJitsu.

After a year of training 4-5 days per week now, I personally have not only lost weight and gained muscle, but I’ve also learned self defense techniques and disciplines that could save the life of my loved ones, or myself. More than that, my 2 son in laws now train here and we’ve all gained new friends, and would strongly recommend other families looking to get more active (both parents and kids) come check out some of the beginner and adult and kids classes in this big, clean, new location!

  4. Gracie Ohio is a fantastic gym. Great facility, amazing instructors and wonderful culture. Having started my BJJ at a different gym, I can say if I started here, I’d be much further along with my skill level.

  5. This is a really great place to start your jiujitsu journey.
I’ve been coming here for about 3 months now and the people here have made my experience amazing.
The professors are very supportive and really good teachers. They teach techniques very meticulously and also make the class fun and interesting.
They are also very strict on safety and making sure we don’t injure ourselves.

Very positive experiences so far for my kids. I have my 7 and 5yr old daughters enrolled in the free week trial and they are really enjoying Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. The training is great and I hope to be able to enroll myself at some point. Everyone has been friendly and welcoming so far and the main instructors for both have made sure to spend adequate 1-on-1 time with my girls to help them get started. The Jiu Jitsu 5-7yr old class had about 18 students, so there are moments when things get a little chaotic, but it was well managed overall. There was 1 main instructor (I think her name is Sarah) and two assistants. I personally wasn’t there for their first Muay Thai session, but my wife said that Coach Boggs is a natural instructor and did great with the kids. Pricing seems fair and I will for sure be bringing them back at some point when we have the finances.

Good training facility if your into a martial arts and your looking to get some bag training in, good personal training too for a great price point. My only concern if how uncoordinated the staff seem to be. Great otherwise!

Best muay thai camp I’ve ever been. These ppl are real fighters and trainers who respect the combat skills they teach. Coach Aaron Boggs and Bryce Jackson are great

I’ve been training at Ronin for a few months now and I’m absolutely addicted to it. I’m studying BJJ and Muay Thai, and I occasionally get a workout in there. I’ve also started my older son in kids BJJ. I wanted to wait a few months before I reviewed. Below are a few high points of my experience at Ronin in no particular rank order. 1. Family atmosphere. Everyone there is welcoming and warm. I’ve been utterly shocked at how helpful and friendly everyone is, from the staff and trainers, to my fellow students. It’s a tough thing to walk into a legit fight gym for the first time. It’s also extremely humbling. My experience at Ronin so far in just a few short months has already positively impacted my mental health and the way I approach life. It’s quite unbelievable. 2. World class instruction. BJJ is where I spend the most time. How truly lucky is Columbus, OH to have Vitor Oliveira, a world champion Jiu Jitsu competitor, teaching here? Vitor is a machine on the mats in competition and has dedicated his life to Jiu Jitsu. But he’s also a fantastic coach. However, the culture he has instilled is what stands out to me the most. A fish out of water if what it feels like the first class you attend, but every single student of his has been welcoming to me, non-judgemental and extremely helpful. Everyone is truly interested in each others progression. Laurah Hallock, who manages the gym, is the only female black belt in Columbus, and she is also a fantastic instructor. For women considering BJJ, they have a womens only class once per week and the other classes are coed. BJJ is the ultimate equalizer to strength, so women considering self defense should consider it first and foremost before anything else. For Muay Thai, Aaron Bogg’s class has the same feel. Aaron has a knack for instruction and he’s also serious about his students progress. He made me feel comfortable within 10 seconds of my first class. I’d love to have more time for Muay Thai. The same culture is prevalent in his class. 3. Kids BJJ. I’ve started my older son in kids BJJ and the instruction and class format for the little ones is perfect. If you want your kids to learn discipline, patience, impulse control and be able to truly defend themselves in this crazy world, look no further than Jiu Jitsu. They sort the class by age group, so the little ones don’t get mixed in with the bigger kids. Sarah, Des, Sal and others do a great job keeping it fun with games and drills that develop important skills and knowledge at the same time. They’re putting in showers right now which is a bonus. They also have a weight training area, a boxing ring and an MMA ring. Boxing classes, Judo, Yoga, Kids Wrestling and a Ronin Fit class are also taught at Ronin. If you have any doubt about where the best train, visit Ronin and see for yourself.

My 9 year old daughter and I both train at the Ohio Combat Sports Academy and love it. All of the instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. Neither of us had any experience in grappling prior to joining, but we never once felt unwelcome at the gym- every one is great! We’ve been going now for almost two years and have no intentions of going anywhere else to train!

I started BJJ a few years ago. I have traveled to out of state academy gyms. This gym is fantastic. I really felt at home. Everyone is welcoming. The coach Dustin really cares about the students knowledge. I entered one of his tournaments. It was professionally ran. I also know some of the other affiliates of his school. In Marietta Oh also has a great school. I hope to train again with all of those guys. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Ohio Combat Sports Academy, Dustin, all of the other instructors and students/team members are world class. Everyone is willing to help anyone improve regardless of skill level. The environment is welcoming, with a wide variety of classes for beginners through black belts. I have had nothing but positive experiences and would recommend it to anyone interested in learning martial arts.

Great instruction and great team atmosphere. One of the few places that the black belts with stay after and work with you. I felt like a part of the team the first day I walked in, several years ago. Now it’s just an extended family. Great for the kids and all the instructors are top notch and go above and beyond. The best part is the entire team is always looking to help each other improve. Highly recommend for kids, adults, and even old guys like me.
